On Friday, Aug. 27 the state of Mississippi banned a synthetic marijuana substance, more commonly known as 'Spice,' 'K2,' 'Genie,' 'Demon' or 'Voodoo.' The substance was previously sold as potpourri or herbal incense and was easily accessible for purchase.

Beginning this year, Mississippi State University will begin a new era with their concessions. Aramark Higher Education became the winning bidder for a 10-year contract to provide concessions for most MSU athletic venues. "Our philosophy at Aramark is to enhance the game day experience for every fan by offering less lines and more variety," Aramark Resident District Manager Jason Nall said.

University Police clears rumors and explains ticketing

Craig Jaccuzzo, director of University Police, cleared up several rumors this week about traffic and parking violations.

During the first three days of school, there were about 450 citations given for parking violations, and about 50 citations given for speeding and stop sign violations.

Those were the words of KGRM-FM station manager Joyce Evans, who presided during a joint Grambling State-Louisiana Tech press conference Wednesday in the Doris Robinson Banquet Room of the Eddie G. Robinson Museum.

A Thibodaux police officer allegedly raped a Nicholls student in her La Maison du Bayou on campus apartment early Friday morning.

Officer Corey Morris of the Thibodaux Police Department was on duty and working in downtown Thibodaux when someone approached him asking him to drive their friend, who was intoxicated and vomiting at the time, home.

Kappa Sigma returns to campus

The Delta Chi chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity is continuing the process of restoring its chapter status following its revocation last October due to an alcohol-related incident. The chapter was placed on probation by university officials before having its charter officially removed by the Kappa Sigma national offices in October 2009.

Tempers flared on the south side of campus yesterday when two evangelist preachers verbally clashed with students lounging near the alumni mall.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. yesterday, Kerrigan Skelly and John McGlone addressed clusters of students, many of whom turned hostile, outside Mitchell Hall.
